Scouters from Troop 281, Dallas, went on a western trek this past summer, culminating in a two-week backpacking trip at Philmont Scout Ranch, Cimarron, New Mexico.
The troop began its adventure at Colorado Springs, CO, and enjoyed a tour of the United States Air Force Academy. While staying the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, the Scouts hiked and explored the geological spectacle known as Garden of the Gods.
They then road the cog railway to the top of Pikes Peak and enjoyed a whitewater rafting trip on the Arkansas River. The troop finally arrived at Philmont Scout Ranch and backpacked up to 94 miles, including summitting Baldy Mountain and the infamous Tooth of Time.
Troop 281 ended its adventure by spending two days in Sante Fe, New Mexico, before flying home.
