KINGSTON TWP. — The Kingston Township Board of Supervisors approved the request of the Trucksville EMS, Fire and Rescue Association to be the municipal sponsor for a Local Share Account Grant application for funding to construct a new fire house facility.

Representatives from the association were on hand to answer questions. They said the grant is being sought so that all of Trucksville emergency and fire services can respond from a single site.

In another matter, Richard Harrison, of Trucksville, thanked the board for its donation of $250 to the Back Mountain Food Pantry.

Harrison said the pantry is manned by 45 volunteers and the organization provided meals for 221 families during the Thanksgiving holiday.

He said 100-150 bags of food go out on a weekly basis to needy members of the community.

Board member James Reino said the township has increased its commitment to the pantry to $500 for 2015.

Reino cited various good works that the township participates in, including blood drives, food collection for those in need and support for the local library,

“It’s the goal of our supervisors to serve the township and the entire Back Mountain,” said Reino. “That’s why we do what we do.”

In other matters, the board:

* Authorized the township’s participation in the Back Mountain Community Partnership’s Local Share Account grant application. ‘

– Authorized the township’s participation with the Luzerne Borough in a multi-municipal Local Share Account grant application for infrastructure improvements.

– Approved amendment of its police pension plan to comply with state laws and regulations concerning the definition of spouse.

– Approved a cooperation agreement between the township, Lehman Township and Dallas Borough for the joint purchase of a street sweeper with funding from a Local Share Account Grant awarded to the Back Mountain Community Partnership with Kingston Township being the sponsor.

The annual reorganization meeting of the township will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015. The next regular meeting of the board of supervisors will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015.
