Kiwanis All-Star Game celebrates 35th year

Taylor Kelley took advantage of one last chance to play on her home field.

Kelley was named Most Valuable Player for the West team in a 10-9 victory over the East in the Dallas Kiwanis Senior All-Star Game Monday at the Dallas Little League Field.

As one of four Dallas players on the winning team in the game for graduating Wyoming Valley Conference players, Kelley helped the West get out to big leads before holding on for the win.

Kelley went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. She singled in one run and scored another in a five-run first inning. She started the fourth inning with another hit and scored the first of the four runs to increase a 5-3 lead to 9-3.

Abby Berger, Katy Comitz and Samantha Missal also represented Dallas and contributed to the win. Berger had a hit, run and RBI. Comitz and Missal also scored, giving Dallas players half of the West runs.

Tunkhannock’s Ryleigh Fitch drove in two runs and had a hit and run scored.

The West held on by retiring two East runners on the bases in the bottom of the last inning of the nine-inning game.

Players were picked for the all-star game as part of the Wyoming Valley Conference coaches all-star selections.

Tunkhannock pitcher Erin Smith was chose Player of the Year in Division 2.

Comitz, Kelley, Missal, Smith and Tunkhannock’s Taylor Hegedty, Traci Kromko and Erin Smith were all first-team all-stars in the division.

Sydney Kern, Maddie Perez and Kylee Saba from Dallas and Fitch, Michelle Goodwin, Ashley Knott and Lindsey Kwiatkowski from Tunkhannock were all second-team choices.

Berger, Maddie Kelley, Kelly Snyder and Sadie Trudgen from Dallas, Brit Meeker and Lacey Miller from Lake-Lehman and Karlie Bulford and Kailey Reposa from Wyoming Area received honorable mention.
