Shavertown’s Patrick McGrath scored his first professional goal Nov. 15 in Indianapolis, giving the Wheeling Nailers a lead in an ECHL game they eventually lost to the Indy Fuel, 3-2.

The Lake-Lehman graduate and second-year hockey pro put the Nailers ahead, 2-1, late in the first period on a shot that caromed off both posts and trickled across the goal line.

McGrath has a goal and an assist, along with a team-high 33 penalty minutes, in seven games for Wheeling. He already has produced more points than his rookie season when he had just one assist in 45 games for the Nailers.

The 21-year-old forward is minus-2 for the season, meaning he has been on the ice for two more even-strength goals by the opponents than by the Nailers.

Wheeling is off to a 5-5-0 start.
