ESSAY PUBLISHED

Christopher M. Carr, Ph.D., assistant professor of religious studies at Misericordia University, recently had his essay, “Mary: Mirror of Justice,’’ published in the book, “Mary, God-Bearer to a World in Need,’’ by Pickwick Publications, Eugene, Ore.

The 202-page paperback is a collection of essays that explores what the world knows about the mother of Jesus Christ in both Scripture and tradition, and in turn applies it to issues of the modern world.

Dr. Carr earned his doctorate in religious studies and his undergraduate degree in speech from Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wis.

THREE NAMED

TO DEAN’S LIST

Laura and Rachel Madeira, both of Dallas, and Bethany Searfoss, of Tunkhannock, have been named to the Dean’s List at Bob Jones University for grades achieved during the fall 2013 semester. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must earn a 3.0 GPA.

Laura Madeira is a senior Business Administration major, Rachel Madeira is a sophomore Cinema Production major and Searfoss is a junior Music Education major.

MULLEN ON

DEAN’S LIST

Jordan Mullen, of Dallas, has been named to the Dean’s List at Youngstown State University for the fall 2013 Semester. Mullen is majoring in Pre Engineering and Tech B at YSU.

To be eligible for the Dean’s List, a student must achieve a semester grade point average of 3.4 or better and take a minimum of 12 semester hours of credit.

AUGUGLIARO GRADUATES

Dana Augugliaro, of Dallas, graduated from Clarion University with a Sociology BA degree during Dec. 14 commencement.

DEAN’S LIST

Several area students have been named to the Dean’s List at Clarion University for the fall 2013 semester. They are:

Emily Smallwood and Allison Zeiler, both of Dallas; Carla Cilvik, of Harveys Lake; Kiri Koziol, of Noxen; Elizabeth Lipski and Sarah Zerfoss, both of Shavertown; and Benjamin Spencer, of Tunkhannock.

Students must earn a grade point average of 3.5 for placement on the Dean’s List.

HEINDEL ON

DEAN’S LIST

Amy Heindel, of Sweet Valley, has been named to the Dean’s List for the 2013 fall semester at Messiah College. Heindel is a senior majoring in engineering.

Dean’s List status is earned by receiving a 3.6 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale.

HIZNEY GRADUATES

Scott Hizney, of Harveys Lake, graduated from Lycoming College in January. Hizney earned a bachelor’s degree in digital communications.

DANKO NAMED

TO DEAN’S LIST

Lindsay Danko, daughter of Ron and Deb Danko, of Dallas, has been named to the Dean’s List at the Ohio State University for the fall semester 2013. Students must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and be a full time student to earn Dean’s List status.

A junior, Danko is a nursing major.

DEAN’S LIST

Katelyn M. Proulx, of Tunkhannock, a freshman majoring in geology, has been named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2013 semester at SUNY Oswego.

The President’s and Dean’s Lists represent the academic top 29.4 percent of the Oswego student body. To be included on the Dean’sList, students must have a semester grade average of 3.30 to 3.79.

BMT PROF IS PUBLISHED

Michael Orleski, Ph.D., of Dallas Township, an assistant professor of physics at Misericordia University, had his article, “Service Learning in Introductory Astronomy,’’ published in the December issue of The Physics Teacher, a refereed journal read by thousands of teachers in high schools and colleges around the world.

Dr. Orleski earned doctorate and Master of Science degrees in physics from Lehigh University. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in physics, a Master of Science in general science, and Bachelor of Science degrees in earth science and secondary education, and general science and secondary education from East Stroudsburg University.

Ryan Naugle, of Shavertown, has been named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2013 semester at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis. Naugle is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.

Melissa Cruz, of Shavertown, and Ashley Inman, of Tunkhannock, have been named to the fall 2013 Dean’s List at Mansfield University.

To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must attend the university full-time and attain at least a 3.5 GPA for the semester.

Sara Petokas, of Tunkhannock, has been named to the fall 2013 President’s List at Mansfield University.

To be named to the President’s List, a student must be attending the university full-time and attain at least a 4.0 QPA for the semester.

MASTER’S DEGREES

Jodi Babcock, of Sweet Valley, and Thomas Weeks, of Shavertown, were among 301 doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s degrees awarded to Wilkes University students who graduated after the completion of the fall 2013 semester.

Both received Master of Science degrees in Education.

PAULEY GRADUATES

Gennifer Pauley, of Noxen, received a Master of Science degree in Education from Wilkes University.

SAYLES GRADUATES

John Sayles, of Tunkhannock, received a Master of Business Administration degree from Wilkes University.

MOORE NAMED

TO DEAN’S LIST

Eric Moore, of Dallas, has been named to the fall term Dean’s List at Hartwick.

Inclusion on Hartwick’s Dean List is an indication of excellent academic work, including the completion of a full course load with at least a 3.5 grade point average based on a 4.0 scale.

The son of Robert and Elim Moore, Moore is a junior majoring in biochemistry.

To be named to the Dean’s List, students must obtain a minimum 3.4 grade point average and carry at least 12 credits.

Back Mountain residents named to the Dean’s List at The University of Scranton are Megan E. Fleming and Sara J. Krogulski, Shavertown; Kaitlyn R. Slaff, Rebekah Stuart and Paul J. VanLoon, Dallas; Devin M. Sullivan-Phillips and Cory C. Templeton, Trucksville;.

To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must have a grade point average of 3.5 or better with a minimum number of credit hours.

Elizabethtown (Pa.) College announced the names of students whose outstanding academic performances have earned them the recognition of being included on the fall 2013 dean’s list.

RUSSELL NAMED

TO DEAN’S LIST

Kaylin Russell, of Trucksville, has been named to the Dean’s List at Elizabethtown College for the fall 2013 academie year. Russell is a Communications – Corporate Com major.

To earn this recognition, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.60 or better in 14 or more credit hours, of which at least 12 credits are letter-graded course work.

EVANS GRADUATES

Matthew M. Evans, of Shavertown, was a member of the 213th graduating class of The Lackawanna College Police Academy. He was among 213 graduates honored during a ceremony on Jan. 24 at the Theater at Lackawanna College.

Amy Casagrande, of Wyoming, recently graduated with a master’s of business administration in in a self-designed track from DeSales University.

CAWLEY NAMED

TO DEAN’S LIST

Christie Cawley, of Shavertown, was among more than 1,900 students from Coastal Carolina University to be named to the fall 2013 Dean’s List.

To qualify for the Dean’s List, freshmen must earn a 3.25 grade point average, and upperclassmen must earn a 3.5 grade point average.

Cawley is a freshman Chemistry major.

SPENCER NAMED

TO DEAN’S LIST

Rebecca Spencer, of Dallas, PA, is among the 547 students who earned Dean’s List honors for the fall 2013 semester at Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Spencer, Jr. made Dean’s List by maintaining a 3.4 or higher grade point average.

NICKEL EARNS MASTERS

Jessica Nickel, of Dallas, Pa., recently received a Master of Arts degree in English from the State University of New York at New Palt.

Nickel received a MA in English.

RUTALIS NAMED

TO DEAN’S LIST

Jennifer Rutalis, of Dallas, has been named to Alvernia University’s Dean’s List for the fall 2013 semester.

To be eligible for the Dean’s List, students must carry a semester GPA of 3.5 or better and take a minimum of 12 credits.

A graduate of Dallas High School, Rutalis is a senior psychology major at Alvernia.
