Golf Classic

The 31st Annual Dallas Rotary Club’s Golf Classic to support Dallas Rotary Charities will be begin with at 12:30 p.m. with a shotgun start on Monday, Sept. 22 at the Irem Country Club, Dallas.

Chairman Kevin Smith, co-chair Kerry Freeman and all club members are looking for hole sponsors and players. The sponsorship donation is $100 and the players’ entry fee is $110. The format is captain and crew. Individuals are welcome and will be teamed up with others in a group.

Call Kevin Smith at 570-696-5420 for more information and an entry form. Sponsors are asked to respond by Sept. 12 to allow enough time for proper sign printing. Players are also urged to respond by Sept. 12 for the Rotary Club to determine how many will be in attendance for a seafood and steak dinner with all the trimmings following the tournament. An awards ceremony and raffle will take place at the end of the day.

Shavertown United Methodist Church Annual Golf Tournament will take place on Oct. 4 at Mill Race Golf and Camping Resort, Benton, with registration starting at 9 a.m.

An $80 entry fee includes green fees and cart, free use of the driving range with unlimited balls, snacks upon arrival, a picnic dinner following the tournament, gifts and prizes.

PGA Golf Professional George Skomsky will set up a putting contest at 9 a.m. Sink a putt and win a sleeve of Titleist balls. Skomsky will also visit the 18th green and putt for each team.

Hole sponsorships are available for $80 and offer a name (or an organization’s name) displayed as the hole sponsor by a sign at the tee box and a listing in the program.

Mail checks payable to SUMC to the church at 163 N. Pioneer Ave., Shavertown, Pa. 18708 and note on the envelope “ Golf Tournament.” Include name, address, home or cell phone for each member of the foursome.

The Penn State Wilkes-Barre Alumni Constituent Society will host its annual TV Tailgate Party for Penn State Nittany Lion Football Fans in Northeastern Pennsylvania on Saturday, Oct. 11.

The tailgate, scheduled for Penn State’s match-up against the Michigan Wolverines, boasts football tailgate style food and drinks, as well as a halftime raffle, and a 50/50 drawing.

The tailgate gets underway 30 minutes before the game’s kickoff at The River Grille, 670 N. River St. in Wilkes-Barre, and wraps up 30 minutes after the end of the game. Official game time is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Cost per person is $28 and all attendees must be 21 years of age or older. Reservations are due no later than October 9th.
