TUNKHANNOCK — Mary C. Hopkins, 77, entered into eternal rest on Feb. 4, 2014. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, David W. Hopkins Jr., at the Golden Living Center, Tunkhannock. Funeral services were held at the convenience of the family from the Nulton-Kopcza Funeral Home. 5749 state Route 309, Beaumont, Monroe Township.
TUNKHANNOCK — David W. Hopkins Jr., 79, passed away on Feb. 7, 2014. David was under the care of Golden Living Center, Tunkhannock. David and his wife, Mary, were married 55 years. Dave has “caught up” with her and they enter the Kingdom of Heaven together. Funeral services were held at the convenience of the family from the Nulton-Kopcza Funeral Home, 5749 state Route 309, Beaumont, Monroe Township.
TUNKHANNOCK — Jennie Jenkins Bartron, 93, of Tunkhannock, passed away on Feb. 4, 2014. Funeral service was held Feb. 8 from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc., 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock.
HANOVER TWP. — Florence L. Lavage, 97, formerly of Steele Street, Hanover Township, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Feb. 4, 2014, at the Mercy Center Nursing Unit, Dallas. She had family in Dallas. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 14 in St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre. A memorial service will be held May 17 at Mercy Center Chapel, Misericordia University. Mamary-Durkin Funeral Services has been entrusted with arrangements.
PITTSTON — Angela “Turco” Hornack, 71, passed away Feb. 7, 2014, after a lengthy illness. She had family in Trucksville. Funeral was held Feb. 11 at the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home Inc., 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas, with funeral Mass in Our Lady Of Victory Church, Harveys Lake.
MACUNGIE — Edward Kildoyle Dexter, formerly of Dallas and most recently of Macungie, passed away Feb. 7, 2014, surrounded by family at Lehigh Valley Hospital. Visiting hours were held Feb. 13 at Schantz Funeral Home P.C., 250 Main St., Emmaus, immediately followed by a memorial service.
DALLAS — Ronald T. Selenski Sr., 68, of Dallas, passed away Feb. 9, 2014, at St. Luke’s Villa, Commonwealth Hospice, Wilkes-Barre. The funeral was Feb. 13 from Bednarski Funeral Home, 168 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas.
DALLAS — John Dennis Hughes, 81, of Dallas passed away peacefully on Feb. 11, 2014, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Feb. 15 in St. Therese’s Church, Pioneer Avenue and Davis Street, Shavertown. Arrangements entrusted to the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown.
WEST WYOMING — Joseph J. Simons Jr., 84, a former resident of Stites Street, West Wyoming, and most recently a guest at Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully on Feb. 12, 2014, at Commonwealth Hospice Inpatient Unit at St. Luke’s Villa, Wilkes-Barre. He had family in Dallas. Funeral was Feb. 15 from the Wroblewski Funeral Home Inc., 1442 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Monica’s Parish, 363 W. 8th St., West Wyoming.
LARKSVILLE — Emil J. Sholtis Jr., 65, a resident of Larksville, passed away Feb. 12, 2014, at Kindred Hospital of the Wyoming Valley, Wilkes-Barre. He had family in Trucksville. A blessing service was celebrated Feb. 17 in the Wroblewski Funeral Home Inc., 1442 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort.
DALLAS — Leonard F. Strong, 69, of Meeker Road, Dallas, passed away Feb. 11, 2014, at Celtic Hospice at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre. His wife of 27 years is the former Barbara Amrowski. A viewing and blessing service was held Feb. 16 at the Stanley S. Stegura Funeral Home Inc., 614 S. Hanover St., Nanticoke.
BEAR CREEK TWP. — Elizabeth “Betty” J. Herbert, of Bear Creek Township, passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 6, 2014, in the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. Born in Shavertown, Kingston Township, on July 9, 1938, she was a daughter of Adrian Sr. and Martha (Gray) Winter. A celebration of life will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. March 9 in the Dorranceton United Methodist Church, 549 Wyoming Ave., Kingston.

GREEN BROOK, N.J. — Joseph B Palonis, 89, of Green Brook, N.J., passed away Feb. 12, 2014, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, East Orange, N.J. He had family in Shavertown. A funeral was held Feb. 17 from the Kizis-Lokuta Funeral Home, 134 Church St., Pittston, with a funeral Mass in St John the Evangelist Church, William Street, Pittston.
FRANKLIN TWP. — Doris Bedford, 90, of Franklin Township, passed away Feb. 13, 2014, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. Funeral services were held Feb. 17 in the Metcalfe-Shaver-Kopcza Funeral Home, 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.
MOUNTAIN TOP — Marion R. Sterling, 88, formerly of Forty Fort and Trucksville, transitioned into eternal life on Feb. 11, 2014, at the Mountain Top Senior Care and Rehabilitation Center. At the time of her passing, Marion was under the care of Sacred Heart Hospice. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Carbondale.
JENKINS TWP. — Mary J. Hrab, 85, of Dan Flood Tower, Kingston, and more recently of Wesley Village, Jenkins Township, died peacefully Feb. 14, 2014, at Geisinger Medical Center. She formerly resided in Dallas. Funeral services were held Feb. 18 at Graziano Funeral Home Inc., Pittston Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Marello Parish, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, William Street, Pittston.
DALLAS — Horace W. Burrell Jr., 75, of Dallas, passed away at his home on Feb. 14, 2014. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Feb. 18 in Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake, with arrangements by the Karl E. Blight Funeral Home, 392 Wyoming Ave., Kingston.
CLARKS SUMMIT — Ruth J. Brittain, 79, of Clarks Summit and formerly of Beach Lake, died Feb. 13, 2014, in her home. She married her husband, James Brittain Sr., on June 2, 1962. She had family in Tunkhannock. The funeral was held from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
DALLAS — Joseph Arthur Dymond Sr., 78, passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Wilkes Barre General Hospital. He was born in Tunkhannock. Funeral was held Feb. 21 at the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home Inc., 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas.
