Sen. Lisa Baker (R-20) encourages firefighters and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) to apply for a scholarship through the Yvorra Leadership Development (YLD) Foundation. The application deadline is Oct. 30 and awards are issued in December.
According to Foundation President Michael S. Hildebrand, the Maryland-based YLD has awarded $132,500 in scholarships and awards to emergency responders throughout the U.S. since 1989. Any active duty career or volunteer member of the fire, rescue, and emergency medical services may apply. In 2013, YLD issued three awards of $2,500 each.
To request or complete an application, visit the YLD web site at www.yld.org.
The Yvorra Leadership Development Foundation was organized in 1988 in honor of Deputy Fire Chief James G. Yvorra, who was killed in the line of duty.
