In conjunction with National Active Aging Week which is celebrated between Sept. 21 and 27, the Area Agency on Aging for Luzerne and Wyoming Counties will host an Active Aging Day between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18 at the Farmers Market, Wilkes-Barre Public Square.

Informational tables will be set up with brochures, flyers, handouts on the various programs available for seniors regarding the Waiver Program, Frozen Home Delivered Meal Program, Family Caregiver Support Program, Nursing Home Transition Program, Protective Services, Options Services, Foster Grandparent Program, Mature Worker Program, Prime Time Health Program, Active Adult Centers, and the APPRISE Program. Representatives from some of the programs will be present to answer questions.

In addition to the above, other activities have been planned. Entertainment will be provided by Stanky and the Coal Miners. The Charles T. Adams Active Adult Center will have an early bingo from 9 to 10 a.m. Bag lunches for seniors 60+ can be pre-ordered ($2 donation) through the Charles T. Adams Active Adult Center by calling 570-825-3484 by noon the day before and the lunches will be delivered to the square at a designated (bandstand) area. The Pittston Active Adult Center members will do a polka demonstration. A raffle will be called with prizes awarded.
