Mallory Wilson had a milestone sneak up on her.

The Lake-Lehman junior learned in a timeout during an April 9 game at Tunkhannock that she was at 199 points for her high school lacrosse career.

Wilson’s teammates were excited to hear the news and helped her become the program’s first 200-point scorer about a minute of playing time later.

After receiving a pass while heading up the left side of the field, Wilson worked her way behind the cage and found teammate Rachel Pilch cutting to the goal in front. Pilch’s goal, with 3:23 left in the half, gave Wilson eight points and five assists for the day, helping the team to a 19-2 halftime lead and 24-3 rout.

“In her freshman year, she did a lot more scoring,” said Alex Wilson, Mallory’s father and Lake-Lehman’s co-coach, along with Ron Strohl. “The last two years, she’s been more of a quarterback.”

A teammate retrieved the ball after the 200th point, giving Wilson something to help remember the achievement. She was more than halfway there after producing 81 goals and 21 assists, the best totals in the state by a freshman in 2012, according to those reported to maxpreps.com. As a sophomore, the first-team Wyoming Valley Conference all-star added 49 goals and a team-high 31 assists. In her first eight games this season, Wilson had nine goals and 15 assists.

Not far behind Wilson was fellow junior Alyssa Adams, who used her goal-scoring prowess to chase the same 200-point milestone this week even though she missed the final eight games of her freshman season with an injury.

“Any time you have two of the top scorers in the state together as teammates, you can build off of it,” Coach Wilson said. “Freshman year, they surprised a lot of people. Over the last two seasons, teams will try to scheme to stop one of them.

“It makes you tough to defend when you have a combination like that and it really opens things up for their teammates. This year, more than ever, we’ve been able to spread the ball out and get other girls scoring as well.”

Lake-Lehman took a 3-2 record into Wednesday’s game at unbeaten league leader Delaware Valley.

Adams is leading the team in goals and points for the second straight season. After compiling 61 goals and three assists in 12 games in 2012, she had 87 goals and four assists last year and had 35 goals and seven assists this year, going into Wednesday.

Adams had five goals and an assist while Katie Stroll (three assists) and Courtney Thomas joined Wilson with three goals in the rout of Tunkhannock. Hannah Stull added two goals and four assists while Emily Galasso, Aleaha Blaxick and Pilch also had two goals.

The Lady Knights opened a four-goal halftime lead which they maintained while beating rival Dallas, 10-6, Monday before four goals and an assist by Adams and three goals by Strohl. Wilson chipped in a goal and two assists.

Julia Baloh and Amanda Miller each scored twice and Alex Klinges made 15 saves for Dallas. Makenzie Borum had nine saves in the win for Lake-Lehman.

“A lot of the girls on the Dallas team were youth teammates with Mallory, Alyssa and a lot of our girls,” Coach Wilson said. “They know each other well.”

The teams are scheduled to meet again at Dallas May 5.
