The Misericordia University baseball team knocked out the top two seeds but ultimately settled for fourth place in the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional that it co-hosted with Keystone College at PNC Field in Moosic.

The Cougars went 2-2 in the tournament to finish their season at 31-15-1. They were eliminated May 17 when they stranded 12 runners, leaving the bases loaded twice, in a 6-1 loss to Wesleyan.

Al Reda went 2-for-3 and drove in the only run while Mike Comerford was 2-for-4 in the final game.

Misericordia won earlier the same day when it eliminated second-seeded Rowan, 1-0, on a combined four-hitter by Tim Burek and Ryan Dorosh.

Burek struck out six in eight innings and Dorosh worked a perfect ninth for the save.

Nick Hair had two of Misericordia’s five hits.

The Cougars bounced back from an opening loss by winning two straight elimination games, the first of which was a 4-3 win over top-seeded Moravian.

Misericordia reached the 30-win mark for the fourth straight season with the victory.

Corey Lee scattered 10 hits over 7 2/3 innings and Cory Vogeli finished up for the save.

Baldwin Wallace defeated Misericordia, 8-4, in the opener.

Chris Boroch, who scored three times, and Kyle Lindsay, who drove in two runs, each had two hits.

Following the season, Dorosh was named Mid-Atlantic Pitcher of the Year by d3baseball.com and was joined on the All-Region team by Lindsay and Comerford.

Lindsay was a first-team second baseman and Comerford a second-team outfielder.

Dorosh, a sophomore, tied a school record for wins by going 10-1 and saved two games in the postseason. He also set school records for strikeouts in a season (92) and career (151) while posting a 2.33 earned run average.
