Lake-Lehman sophomore Corey Kinney auditioned at State band competition, qualifying in first cornet, in Hershey on March 29.
High school students from across the Commonwealth converged on the capitol, bringing with them their musical talents.
Festivals and concerts across the state have been ongoing over the past month in schools, celebrating “Music in our Schools.” Students have auditioned at the district and regional levels for the opportunity to advance to the All-State performance in Harrisburg.
In reaching this state level, Kinney has qualified to audition to be one of the select 150 musicians representing the Eastern Region of the United States at the NAFME All-Eastern Honors ensemble.
For many of these students, this journey began five or more years ago. Countless hours honing their musical craft through repetition, practice, private lessons and honors festivals throughout their elementary and middle school years have led to being selected to this year’s PMEA Music Festival. All of this effort culminated over the last several months with auditions for PMEA District 9 band taking place in mid-November at Wyoming Valley West High School.
District 9 Band representatives from Lake–Lehman include Kinney (Cornet II), Matt Miller (Cornet II), Courtney McMonagle (Alto Clarinet), Carolyn Price (Bassoon II), Jacob Pelton (Percussion)
District 9 representatives from Dallas include Grace Carolan (Clarinet I), Catrina Notari (Bass Clarinet), Erin Michael (French Horn III), Peter Kuritz (French Horn IV), David Sebolka (Baritone), Anthony Huntington (Trombone II)
In addition to Kinney, Region band winners include Miller, a junior; and McMonagle, a senior.
