Students at the Dallas Middle School started preparing for Veterans Day back in the beginning of October. The students held a Penny War to benefit the K9 for Warriors. All three grades competed against each other to raise the highest amount of pennies and students able to sabotage other grades with silver coins and dollars. A check was presented to Jack Cleary, keynote speaker for the program, for the Michael J. Cleary Foundation in the amount of $1,777.66.

The annual Veterans Day program was held at the Dallas Middle School on Nov. 20. The entire student body participated in an essay contest. Students and staff also honored veterans with a huge, paper-chain American flag, each link representing an individual veteran. During the program, students learned about the American flag and the 200th anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner. The local American Legion presented the grade-level winners of the essay contest with a certificate of achievement, a gift card and an essay medal.
