Scouts learn about maple sugar

Junior Girl Scout Troop #32647, Dallas, visited Monroe County Environmental Educational Center in East Stroudsburg for the center’s annual maple sugaring program.

The Scouts learned about the maple sugar process that started with the Indians and was then passed on to the pioneers. Troop members had the opportunity to sponsor a maple tree, whose sap they were able to tap and taste. The tree that the troop sponsored has a sign indicating the troop’s sponsorship.

The girls enjoyed homemade pancakes with maple syrup and hot chocolate at the end of the tour.
