KINGSTON TWP. — Frances A. Vassello, 80, of Kingston Township, passed away at home on Dec. 9, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter. Funeral services were held Dec. 13 from the Metcalfe-Shaver-Kopcza Funeral Home Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Frances Cabrini Church, 585 Mount Olivet Road, Kingston Township.

CHAMBERLAIN

LAKE SILKWORTH — Donna Ruth Chamberlain, of Lake Silkworth passed away quietly on Dec. 9, 2014, and was rejoined with her late husband, Fritz. She had family in Sweet Valley and Dallas. A celebration of life service was held Dec. 13 at the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek.

BAIERA

PITTSTON — Joan Ann Yonki Baiera entered into her eternal reward unexpectedly on Dec. 8, 2014, because of injuries suffered in a car accident. Joan will be sadly missed by her companion, John Sarris, Forty Fort. She had family in Trucksville. Funeral services were held Dec. 12 from Graziano Funeral Home Inc., Pittston Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, William Street, Pittston.

KRUTE

JENKINS TWP. — Mrs. Frances H. Krute, in her 100th year of life, died Dec. 10, 2014 in Wesley Village, Jenkins Township, where she had been a patient for some time. Born in Kingston Township, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Krute Sr. A private remembrance was held at the convenience of the family with arrangements by the H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home Inc., a Golden Rule Funeral Home, 451 N. Main St., Wilkes Barre.

MARTIN

DALLAS — Bill Martin, 45, of Dallas, passed away Dec. 8, 2014, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, after a sudden illness. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, the former Heather Crossmon. Funeral services were held Dec. 13 from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek.

GREGORY

LEHMAN TWP. — Robert S. Gregory Sr., 93, of Lehman Township, passed away Dec. 11, 2014, at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, after a long and productive life. Funeral services were held Dec. 16 from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek.

LUKASAVAGE

DALLAS — Barbara Leonard Lukasavage, 65, of Dallas, passed away Dec. 11, 2014, at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit, Dunmore, surrounded by her loving family, after a very courageous battle with cancer. Visitation was held Dec. 15 at the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown.

HILL

DALLAS — Sister Catherine Rose Hill, RSM, a member of the Mid-Atlantic Community of the Sisters of Mercy, died at Mercy Center, Dallas, on Dec. 13, 2014. The celebration of her life with a prayer service was held Dec. 17 in the Mercy Center Chapel, Dallas, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Arrangements were by E. Blake Collins, Wilkes-Barre.

MEKUTA

FALLS CHURCH, Va. — Elizabeth “Betty” Mekuta (nee Cebula), of Falls Church and formerly of Mount Pocono and Bear Creek, passed away peacefully on Dec. 13, 2014. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph A. Mekuta. She had family in Tunkhannock. As per her wishes, no services were held.

HEDRICK

BARDWELL — Stanley C. Hedrick, of Bardwell, passed away on Dec. 10, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, DeDe Cigna Hedrick, and had family in Tunkhannock. A memorial service was held Dec. 20 in the Dalton United Methodist Church, 125 S. Turnpike Road, Dalton.

NOBEL

EDWARDSVILLE — Ruth R. Nobel of Isabel Court, Edwardsville and formerly of Dallas, died Dec. 13, 2014, at Celtic Hospice Inpatient Unit at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, who died in Jan. 2007. At Ruth’s request, there were no calling hours and funeral services were at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were entrusted to Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown.

SMITH

DALLAS — Harry A. Smith, 79, of Dallas, passed away Dec. 13, 2014, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Surviving is his wife of 56 years, the former Nancy Kreischer. Funeral was held privately at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were under the direction of the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas.

POWELL

DALLAS — Miss Alice J. Powell, 91, formerly of the Heights section and of Provincial Towers, Wilkes-Barre, died Dec. 13, 2014, in Mercy Center, Dallas, where she had been a guest for some time. Graveside services were held Dec. 17 in Hanover Green Cemetery, Hanover Township.

KELLY

MOUNT JOY — Sally S. Kelly, formerly of Larksville, passed away peacefully on Dec. 14, 2014, following a lengthy illness in Juniper Village, Mount Joy. Sally is survived by her husband, James J. Kelly Jr. She had family in Tunkhannock. Funeral services were held Dec. 17 from the Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerbey Ave., Kingston, with Mass of Christian Burial in St. Ignatius Church, Kingston.

MURRAY

SHAVERTOWN — Kathleen Eubank Murray, 86, passed away on Dec. 11, 2014. She is survived by her husband, Fred Murray, Shavertown. A memorial to celebrate Katie’s life will be arranged at a later date.

SAVICKAS

ELIZABETHTOWN — Adeline B. Savickas, 97, of Elizabethtown and formerly of Dallas, died Dec. 14, 2014, at the Masonic Village Health Care Center, Elizabethtown. She was the widow of John Savickas, who died in 2000. Graveside service in Good’s Mennonite Cemetery, Elizabethtown, was private and at the convenience of the family. Buch Funeral Home, Mount Joy, was in charge of arrangements.

WINTER

LEHMAN TWP. — Lydia Louise Winter, 63 of Lehman Township, passed away Dec. 14, 2014, at the Celtic Hospice Healthcare Inpatient Unit, Wilkes-Barre. She was preceded in death by husband, Fred Winter. Funeral services wwere held Dec. 18 from the River Of Life Fellowship, 22 Outlet Road, Lehman. Arrangements were by the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home Inc., Pikes Creek.
