The Back Mountain Memorial Library is pleased to announce the return of one of its most popular programs. Save the date for “Reading with the Penguins.”

This program will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11 in the Children’s Room. A favorite Penguins player will read while Tux has fun with the children acting out the stories. Bring your memorabilia to be signed. Call the library to pre-register, as space is limited. Open to all ages.

The library’s annual Amnesty Week will be held Nov. 17-22. Fines for any overdue materials returned to the library during this week will be waived. Fines for any previously existing infractures, however, will still remain in effect.

The following additional free events are also being offered at the library, but do require advance pre-registration. You may call the library at 570-675-1182 for more information.

• Thursday, Nov. 20 will be the next meeting of the monthly Thursday Morning Book Discussion Club at 10 a.m. The group will meet to discuss the book, “The Cellist of Sarajevo” by Steven Galloway. The group is open to the public and anyone can join at any time.

• Ongoing Creative Writing Classes – held from noon to 3 p.m. on alternate Saturdays. Anyone interested in joining this group is welcome to bring their writing with them to edit and discuss with other interested aspiring writers. Pre-registration is not required, simply come and enjoy! The next class will be on Saturday, Nov. 15.

The library is always happy to provide local artists with a free venue to display their artwork on the gallery wall in the reference room. Simply call the library to describe your type of art – acrylic or oil paintings, as well as photography or any other artistic media will be accepted. The artwork remains on the gallery wall for one month and may include prices if you wish to sell any of your pieces. Call now to schedule for any month in 2015.

The library will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 27 to celebrate Thanksgiving Day. It will re-open at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 28 with regular hours.
