Young artists win awards at Rossetti Juried At Exhibit

The 33rd Annual Suzanne Maria Rossetti Memorial Juried Art Exhibit opened on March 2 at the Schulman Gallery on the campus of Luzerne County Community College in Nanticoke.

Joe and Sue Hand, of Dallas, have sponsored the Suzanne Maria Rossetti Memorial Juried Art Contest for the past 33 years in memory of the daughter of Louise and the late Peter Rossetti, of Saugus, MA.

Artworks in pencil, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, oil, ink, scratchboard, mixed media, fibers, photography, prints, miniature drawings and paintings, 3-D and applied design were created by seventh through 12th-grade students associated with the geographic areas of Dallas, Lake-Lehman, Tunkhannock and Northwest Area school districts.

Entries were judged separately on each grade level in 12 different categories by two panels of three judges each. In addition, a separate awards jury awarded over $8,000 in community-sponsored awards.

Special awards recipients from Dallas Middle School and Dallas High School include: Maria Ansilio, Dana Capitano, Maggie Fannick, Kyle Gurzynski, Steven Kirk, Dana Litchkowski, Amanda Martin, Erin Michael, Kelsey Monahan, Erin Muldoon, Emma Niznik, Lexie Oster, Zane Price, Troy Reinert, Alicia Vincelli, Joanna Wallace, Kayla Wanek, Kyle Yagloski and Madison Ziemba.

Special awards recipients from the Lake-Lehman Junior and Senior High School include: Hannah Cross, Zack Grey, Carolyn Kerkowski, Samantha Mihalko, Chloe Osborne, Tessa Paul, Micaela Payne, Lily Romanowski, Eliana Sicurella, Madison Stambaugh, and Gianna Williams.

Students from the Back Mountain area who attend private or parochial schools in the Wyoming Valley and Scranton area who also won special awards include: Caroline Banas, Ryan Frania, Anthony Nardone, Miranda Nardone, Leana Pande, Andrew Levandoski.

The winning art works will continue on display through Wednesday, April 2. Gallery hours ae 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
