Dallas golfers Brendan Baloh and Alexis Wyandt fell one step short of qualifying for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Championships when they were eliminated during PIAA East Regional qualifying Tuesday at Golden Oaks Country Club in Fleetwood.
Baloh shot 10-over-par, 82 to finish 40th out of 50 golfers vying for 24 Class AAA boys spots in the PIAA Championships.
Wyandt shot 96 and was 23rd out of 24 players trying to land the 12 Class AAA girls berths.
Baloh’s only birdie came on the par-5, 18th, his next-to-last hole in the tournament, which used a shotgun start.
Steve Cerbara from Holy Ghost Prep, one of three players to break par, led qualifying with a 3-under, 69.
Scranton Prep teammates Chris Cerminaro and Tom Keegan shot 77 while Nick Bekish from Abington Heights shot 78 to advance from District 2.
Wyandt got off to a rough start, going 5-over on the first two holes and 9-over on the first five and was unable to play her way back into contention.
Radnor’s Brynn Walker led qualifying with a 2-under-par, 70.
All players at the East Regional had qualified for the tournament with strong finishes in their various PIAA district tournaments.
