The 2013-14 high school sports season came to an end Memorial Day Weekend.
When the Dallas Mountaineers take the field the next time, they could do so in revamped surroundings.
The Dallas School District awarded contracts to FieldTurf and Musco Lighting during its April 14th board meeting, setting the stage for the installation of artificial turf and lighting and the school’s stadium and additional artificial turf on the adjacent baseball field.
“The stadium project is on its way,” Dallas superintendent Frank Galicki said.
The addition of artificial turf and lights at the stadium will open new options to the soccer, field hockey and football teams that play there in the fall as well as the lacrosse teams that play there in the spring. Turf throughout the outfield in baseball will double as an additional field for soccer, field hockey, football and soccer use. If needed, the two surfaces can also be used as practice areas for all sports when weather makes other fields unplayable.
“There will be opportunities to play games under the lights,” Galicki said. “There are going to be a lot of different options for us with the synthetic surfaces.”
Galicki said those options will extend to the community and youth sports teams beyond those run by the school district.
“We provide most of the facilities for the youth leagues and we are also cognizant of the fact that the youth leagues are feeder programs for our middle school and high school teams,” Galicki said. “We’re all working together.”
BOYS LACROSSE
The last Dallas and Lake-Lehman individual athletes competed at the state track and field championships May 23-24 in Shippensburg.
The last full team to compete was May 20 when Delaware Valley defeated Dallas in the District 2 boys lacrosse championship game for the fourth straight year, 16-4.
Omar Nijmeh and J.T. Carey each had a goal and an assist.
