Great-grandson charged in Lake Township fatal shooting

LAKE TWP. – State police at Wyoming and Luzerne County detectives arrested Cody Lee, 16, on charges he killed his great-grandfather, Herbert Lee Sr., 80, inside their Meeker Outlet Road home Wednesday night.

Cody Lee was captured at about 2 a.m. Thursday. He was charged as an adult with criminal homicide and arraigned by District Judge James Tupper at about 8:15 a.m. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility without bail.

Investigators suspect Cody Lee shot his great-grandfather with a rifle. An autopsy is scheduled for later today.

According to the criminal complaint:

Joshua Gleco told investigators that Cody Lee called him on Wednesday and asked if he wanted to shoot air rifles. Cody Lee instructed Gleco to come to his home on Meeker Outlet Road and yell Rambo Lee when he arrived.

Gleco said he yelled the name and looked in the window and saw Cody Lee wrestling Herbert Lee inside the home, the criminal complaint says.

Gleco ran to the rear of the home, looked in a window, and saw Cody Lee standing with a rifle. Gleco said he heard a shot and saw Herbert Lee fall to the floor.

Gleco claimed he ran away from the home and observed a man arriving at the residence. A few minutes later, Cody Lee ran out the front door and was chased by the man, identified as Herbert Lee’s grandson, Scott Lee, the father of Cody Lee.

A 16-year old boy, who was not identified in the criminal complaint, told investigators that Cody Lee offered him chewing tobacco in school. The teen claimed Cody Lee stated to him, "I’m not going to be around long."

When the teen asked what he meant, Cody Lee pulled out a notebook that contained a floor plan of the Meeker Outlet Road home and a list that included: Finding grandpas guns; Kill grandpa; Find money, Find clothes; Wait for dad to get home; Kill dad; Call Josh; Leave with Josh, the criminal complaint says.
