The Back Mountain and its residents have embraced the Triathlon for years. This year, the 27th of the event, was no different. Volunteers came out in droves, providing both professional triathletes and weekend warriors one of the best-organized events in which they will ever participate.
And, once again, Back Mountain residents swam, biked and ran, all while putting their own personal stamp on the annual event.
Shavertown resident Kelly Ochreiter, 29, won her second consecutive individual female title in 2:24.10, finishing 18th overall in an event that features a 0.9-mile swim, a 24.8-mile bike race and a 6.8-mile run.
Sean Robbins, also of Shavertown, a seasoned triathlete and Ironman competitor, was the top local finisher and third overall male finisher. He completed the local event in 2 hours, 10 minutes and 36 seconds. Robbins, 39, has competed in 11 Ironman Triathlons, including the grueling Hawaiian Ironman which features a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike race and a 26.2-mile run.
