HAZLE TWP. – An 82-year old woman was charged earlier today in connection to a fatal vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Tunkhannock school official in April.
Agnes S. Yencho, of Oneida, was charged with homicide by vehicle and eight traffic offenses. She was arraigned by District Judge Thomas Sharkey in Hazle Township and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
According to state police at Hazleton:
Yencho, driving a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass, was traveling south on Interstate 81 on April 26 when she used an emergency cross over lane to travel north on the interstate.
When she pulled onto the northbound lane, police said she struck a 2003 Yamaha motorcycle, driven by Frank J. Valvano, 58, of Tunkhannock.
Valvano died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, police said.
A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for July 31 before Sharkey.
