Township officials hold annual event, elect officers

The Luzerne County Association of Township Officials held its annual convention on August 21 at the Checkerboard Pavilion in Township.

Guest speaker Cory Adams, legal analyst for the Pennsylvania State Association of Supervisors (PSATS,) spoke about upcoming legal issues and updated the new laws that affect townships to the over 150 township supervisors, managers, secretaries and employees in attendance along with 25 vendors of municipal services and products.

Other guest speakers included Kenny Grimes, president of PSATS; State Representative Karen Boback, Brian Grove, chief of staff for Senator Lisa Baker; Hazleton Mayor Louis Barletta, Luzerne County Commissioner Steve Urban and representatives from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Municipal Services, the and the Luzerne Conservation District.

Election of officers was held. The following were elected: Michael Prokopchak, Franklin Township, president; Paul Sabol, Kingston Township, first vice-president; John Jay Wilkes Jr., Jackson Township, second vice-president; Ransom Young, Butler Township, treasurer; and Judy Boudman, Salem Township, secretary.
