Softball game to benefit Justine Martin’s family

A game between the girl’s softball teams of Dallas and Lake-Lehman will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 26 at the Back Mountain Little League field.

Proceeds will benefit the family of Justine Martin, a 16-year-old student at Lake-Lehman Junior/Senior High School who was killed in an automobile accident on January 30 in Lake Township. Donations will be accepted at the game and a 50/50 drawing will be held.

The game is the senior project of Dallas High School student and softball team member Erin Belles. Because the schools are in different divisions this year, they will not play each other during the regular season. The memorial game will not count toward the season.

Lake-Lehman softball coach John Anglovich says Martin played softball for Lehman since she was in seventh-grade.

"I think for a Dallas player to be involved with a Lehman player, because of the rivalry that goes on, I think it’s going to be a great benefit," Anglovich said.

Anglovich says the plan is to make the memorial game an annual event. In the future, money raised from the event will be split to go toward a scholarship in Martin’s name to one Lake-Lehman senior and one Dallas senior.
