Gate of Heaven School recently held its annual Art Show and Auction to which students were asked to submit artwork. The three top grand prize winners were Janna Schmid (fifth grade), Tim Persico (seventh grade), and Laura Nieman (second grade).
Monroe Noxen Health Center recently sponsored a coloring contest to celebrate Child Passenger Safety Week. Children colored pictures pertaining to car sets and seat belt use. Winners of the contest were: Myranda Banos, Steven Anthony, Kristin Lynn and Rodney Lanning.
Ryan and Donny Murray, sons of Kathy and Don Murray of Dallas, recently competed in the Northeastern PA swim championships at Abington High School. Ryan captured three gold medals in the 25 freestyle, 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle relay. Donny captured a fourth and two seventh place finishes. He was also a member of the record-setting 200 yard medley relay.
30 years ago — 1986
Members of the Gate of Heaven boys’ basketball team were honored at an athletic banquet recently. The team won a first place trophy in the Knights of Columbus 8224 All Tournament Game and finished the season with a third place trophy in the West Side Catholic Tournament. Team members are Steve Greger, Greg Stahovec, Mike Farris, Joe Patton, Jack Jones, John Pieczynski, Tony Finarelli, Steve Sennett and John Yucas.
Cub Scouts of Pack 155 went on a field trip to Pizza Perfect in Trucksville. Mr. and Mrs. Adamchick let the scouts tour the kitchen and they also had a chance to see their pizza being baked. Scouts who enjoyed the trip were Eddie Williams, Jason Seward, Terry Meehan, Brian Achuff, Ryan Boraski, Danny Natitus, Robbie Ricker, Mike Lycon, Corey Moyer and Tim Raub.
Brownie Troop 640 and its sister Junior Troop 644 worked together on building a float for the recent St. Patrick’s Day parade in Wilkes-Barre. The junior scouts earned their Bridging Badges and the Brownies had fun helping them. Participants included Alison Stubb, Kim Gaylord, Adrienne Miroslaw, Becky Sutton, Jennifer Brewer, Jennifer Marchakitus, Jennifer Cole, Erin Loftus, Kiera Radginski, Nicole Sutton, Jessica Evans and Jennifer Van Flett.
40 years ago — 1976
Cub Pack 241, Lehman, held its annual racing event in March. This year it was a pinewood derby. Winners were Ray Wandell, first place; Robert Keithline, second place; and Tim Weaver, third place. Best Design award was presented to Eddie Campbell; second best was awarded to Hip Evans; third to Tom Weaver; and fourth to Tim Weaver.
Leslie Burket, Donna Heidel and Cathy Barry, seniors at Dallas High School, will model junior styles in the Fashion Show “Summer Fashions for 1976.” The show, sponsored by the Dallas Band Parents Association, will be held next Saturday in the community room at Pomeroy’s, Wyoming Valley Mall.
Dallas High School senior business education students, Barbara Miller and Margaret Parsons, attended a National Secretaries Association program at the Master Hosts Inn earlier this month. “Career Opportunities: Word Processing” was the topic of presentation.
50 years ago — 1966
The Lake Lehman High School Band, under the direction of John Milauskas presented its annual spring concert last week in the high school auditorium. One highlight of the evening was a trumpet trio consisting of Paul Niezgoda, James Zbick and Shelly Ehret.
An exciting event has been set by Dallas Junior Woman’s Club for May when a “Night in Hawaii Luau” will be the theme of their spring dinner dance to be held at the Carousel Hotel. The Hawaiian night will begin with coconut cocktails with a luau buffet following and featuring roast suckling. Mrs. Ralph Fitch, Jr. is chairman, assisted by Mrs. George Tattersfield, co-chairman; Mrs. Robert Scott, reservations; Mrs. Steven Vrabel, door chairman; Mrs. David Stevens, posters; and Mrs. Robert Andrews, publicity.

Jule Ann Muldowney, 4, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Muldowney, Trucksville, is one of the tots to take part in Eastern Star’s Talent Festival at Dallas Township High School.
Plans were discussed for the Mother and Daughter Dinner to be held at the Country Club next weekend at the meeting of Dallas Women of Kiwanis held at the club Wednesday. Beautiful Easter decorations were in charge of Mrs. Albert Glahn, Mrs. Theodore Ruff, Mrs. William Wright, Mrs. Francis Fry, Mrs. John Henninger and Mrs. Franklin Gager.
Altar and Rosary of Gate of Heaven will serve a turkey dinner Tuesday. Mrs. John Polacheck Jr. is chairman assisted by Mrs. Harry Flussi. Assisting in the kitchen are: Mesdames John Elenchik, Frank McGarry, Carl German, John Jerista, John Kupstas, William Wasser and Joseph Polackey.

Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Lewis have purchased the former Huntsville Inn on the Huntsville-Ceasetown Road from Paul Gates and have opened the Huntsville Recreation Center there after considerable renovations and redecoration work. The center has one of the finest dance floors in this area.
Lehman High School Band of fifty young musicians will leave next Friday morning by bus for Johnstown where it will take part on Saturday in the State Championship competitions of the Pennsylvania Music League sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh. Although individual musicians have in the past taken part in the State competitions, this is the first time that an entire musical organization has represented the Back Mountain region.
