DALLAS TWP. – The Department of Occupational Therapy is seeking pre-school children who have been diagnosed with autism to participate in a research study and program 9:30 to 11 a.m. or 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 19, through May 2.

Therapy focuses on the development of social skills and handwriting and will be held at the Sandra Dzczewski Maffei Painting & Drawing Studio, 50 Lake St., Dallas.

In the “Handwriting Group for Preschoolers’’ program, Orley A. Templeton, assistant professor of O.T. and four master’s degree-level O.T. students in the entry-level master’s degree program will work with the children.

“The Effect of Sensory-Based Strategies and Social-Skill Training on the Development of Social Skills among Pre-school Children Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder’’ will be offered by Templeton and eight master’s degree students 2-3 p.m. and 3-4 p.m. Thursdays from Jan. 19 through May 2 at the Maffei Painting & Drawing Studio. This research study is for children ages 3 to 6.
