WILKES-BARRE — Dotty Martin, a community journalist with four decades of experience, has been named managing editor of the Times Leader Media Group.

As managing editor, Martin will oversee the group’s day-to-day news operations in Wilkes-Barre, Pittston and Clarks Summit.

“I love telling people’s stories,” Martin said. “I’m like a kid who never outgrew the question-asking phase. I want to ask the questions on everyone’s minds and share the answers with our readers.”

Martin previously led the Times Leader’s suburban newspapers: Dallas Post, Sunday Dispatch and Abington Journal. In that role, Martin greatly increased the amount of coverage provided to readers in the Back Mountain, Greater Pittston and the Abingtons.

Her promotion was announced July 24 by Executive Editor George Spohr.

“I’ve loved working closely with Dotty over the past two years,” Spohr said. “I’ve come to rely on her counsel and expertise, which extends beyond the newsroom and into the community. She’s been my walking, talking local Wikipedia.”

Also July 24, Dan Burnett was promoted to news editor.

In that role, Burnett will oversee his own team of reporters; a team of suburban reporters covering the West Side, Greater Pittston, Back Mountain, Abingtons, Mountain Top and Nanticoke areas led by Sarah Hite Hando, a team of investigative reporters led by Roger DuPuis, a team of arts and entertainment reporters led by Sarah Haase, and a newly-formed team dedicated to community news led by Carol Swan.

These were the second promotions for Martin and Burnett in less than a year.
