LEHMAN TWP. — Sgt. Alan Moskin, a member of the 66th Infantry, 71st Division of General George Patton’s 3rd Army in World War II and liberator of the Gunskirchen concentration camp, spoke recently to the student body at Lake-Lehman Junior/Senior High School at its annual Veterans Day Assembly.

Moskin recounted his experiences in combat in World War II and the surreal experience of liberating a concentration camp.

Moskin currently lives in Nanuet, New York, and has spoken to middle and high school students about his war experiences for the past 20 years. He was invited to speak at Lake-Lehman by Michael Novrocki of the social studies department, who has been a friend of Moskin for the past five years.

Moskin’s messages of tolerance and acceptance and treating people according to the content of their character resonated with the student body. Many students stayed after each program to speak to Moskin personally and thank him for his service.
