DALLAS — Even though spring is still a few weeks away, the Back Mountain Memorial Library has already completed its spring cleaning and is ready with its fresh look of new shelving and a spacious open area for studying/tutoring.
When taking on the task of sprucing up homes and reducing clutter, keep in mind the library is now accepting donations for its annual auction, which will be held this year on July 7, 8, 9 and 10. Acceptable donations include clean, reusable household items; decorations, wooden furniture and, of course, any antiques. The library is especially interested in any type of clean, vintage linens, tea sets and teapots. Jewelry is also always accepted along with any other collectibles. Call the library at 570-675-1182 with any questions regarding auction donations.
The library is offering a Silk Scarf Painting Class 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 19. Enjoy painting and completing two silk scarves using “Sumi” brushes and silk fabric paint. Students will be instructed on the tools and techniques used to create unique “wearable” art. Kim Cappellini, the instructor for this class, has a master’s degree in expressive/art therapy and is a practicing artist. A selection of her silk scarves can be seen at “Earth and Wares” located on Main Street in Dallas. The cost of this class is $40, payable to the Back Mountain Memorial Library at the time of pre-registration.
Special reminder to parents: Children’s Storytimes will be canceled if the Dallas School District cancels classes for the day. Your story hour volunteer will advise you about her availability if there is a school delay.
“Wee Build and Game Day” – The Office of Commonwealth Libraries has provided the library with several tubs of building materials that will allow our children infinite opportunities to express themselves, from constructing simple designs to engineering feats. Come see the new manipulatives and join in the fun 10 a.m. to noon and again from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 19. All ages are welcome to attend as the games range from pre-school to middle school.
