KINGSTON TWP. — Rock Solid Academy’s first auction fundraiser is slated for Saturday, April 16.

The private Christian school, located in the former Westmoreland Elementary School at 106 S. Lehigh St., Shavertown, will hold a silent and live auction from 6 to 9 p.m. April 16 in the school’s gymnasium.

The event will feature over 60 donated items from local businesses, including, “A Day On The Farm” from Harteis Horse Farm in Dallas; a new patient orthodontic case valued at $5,365 for a child’s case or $5,565 for adult care from Dr. Brian Miller at Waterfront Orthodontics in Plains Township; several gift cards from area businesses and much more, said Lauren Dennis, associate head of school at Rock Solid Academy.

“We have an anonymous donor who is willing to match up to $60,000 raised,” Dennis said.

Tickets to attend the auction are $10 and available in advance by calling the school at 570-696-5466 or the night of the auction. All proceeds will benefit Rock Solid Academy.

Event guests will be treated to free hors d’oeuvres, Dennis said.

Established in 2012 with about 27 enrolled students, Rock Solid Academy has continued to grow its student population. For the 2015-16 school year there are 85 students enrolled, she said.

The private school does not receive any state funding to cover its operating costs, Dennis said.

“Our school funding is based on donors and tuition,” she said.

On average, the academy raises nearly $400,000 to cover student and teacher supplies, food and nutrition, utilities and other operation expenses, she said.

“We are thankful to all of the businesses and families who are supporting us,” Dennis said.
