LEHMAN TWP. — From evening dresses and men’s suits to children’s pajamas, the Clothes Closet at the River of Life Fellowship Ministries has it all.

The Clothes Closet is a free community outreach program the church offers to those in need, said Linda Wallace, organizer of the service.

“We are here to help anyone in need,” Wallace said. “We have provided clothing to fire victims. They can take anything they need.”

Set up like a mini boutique, the Clothes Closet consists of two rooms on the second floor of the River of Life Fellowship Ministries building, formerly the Lake-Lehman Middle School, located at 22 Outlet Road.

The service is open from noon to 2 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from April to December, Wallace said.

“We are closed January, February and March unless someone contacts Pastor (Kenneth) Kreller,” Wallace said.

“We do accept appointments,” said Loydene Kreller, Pastor Kreller’s wife. “People can call the church office’s phone number, 570-675-8109, to make an appointment.”

Women’s apparel is in a separate room from men and children’s clothing. The rooms are organized in sections with casual and career wear options separated by racks.

Over 100 shoes such as flip-flops, sneakers, sandals, and dressy and casual footwear are laid out on the floor of the men’s and children’s room for easy viewing.

“We have a little of everything to offer,” Kreller said.

Wallace, who has managed the charitable service for the past three years, receives her inventory mainly from the parish.

“When a need for clothing arises, it is mentioned at the church services,” Wallace said. “Right now, we are not in need of anything.”

But demand, as well as supply, can change weekly, she said.

“We have more people come to us in the summer,” Kreller said.

On a busy Saturday, Wallace estimates between 10 to 12 visitors will come in.

“We do see a need (of families struggling financially),” she said. “We do have repeat families coming in.”

Some families get their children’s back-to-school clothes here, Wallace said.
