WILKES-BARRE — A slew of sunny days this past week will give way to mostly cloud cover Friday, with the a thunderstorm likely before noon, weather officials say.

According to the National Weather Service, the region can expect mostly cloudy skies throughout most of the day, with the potential for scattered showers and thunderstorms lurking. Experts say there’s a 50 percent chance of rain.

Temperatures, meanwhile, are still expected to be on par with what the area has seen this week. The high is expected to hover near 73. Expect lows to be in the lower 50s with a 60 percent chance of rain overnight.

For the start of the weekend Saturday, mostly cloudy skies will give way to sunshine with a high of 61. It will be blustery, with winds up to 15 miles per hour. Overnight, it will be mostly clear but much cooler. The low is expected to drop to around 35 degrees.

Sunday looks similar during the day. Highs are expected to reach 65 with a low of 45 overnight.

A chance of rain kicks off another work week Monday and into Tuesday.
