DALLAS — Everyone’s favorite library event is less than three months away! The 70th Annual Back Mountain Memorial Library Auction will be held this year on July 7, 8, 9 and 10.

In anticipation and preparation, don’t forget the Annual Auction Kick-off Dinner and Mini Auction.

This fun evening will be held 6 to 10 p.m. on Monday, June 6 at Appletree Terrace of Newberry Estate. The evening begins with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and a delicious buffet-style dinner including a grilling station, pasta station and dessert station with assorted mini desserts, coffee and specialty teas. Following the dinner will be a mini auction featuring auctioneer Steve Traver. Tickets are $26 per person and may be purchased at the library.

It seems that the auction increases in popularity every year with more bargains, more great finds and of course, more attendees. With this good news in mind, the library is currently preparing its list of auction volunteers. Anyone age 12 and older is encouraged to call the library to sign up for pre-auction set-up. This year’s set-up will begin on Sunday, July 3 and continue on Tuesday, July 5 and Wednesday July 6. Groups of individuals, including tweens needing service hours, are always welcome, as well as adults of any age. A free lunch is provided each day of the auction set-up.

The library has already begun accepting donations for the auction and is especially interested in donations of linen table runners, tablecloths, placemats, etc. Other types of donations including antiques, new goods, household items, vintage collectibles and glassware are also being accepted during normal library hours.

If you’re looking for a few interesting hours, prior to auction fun, keep in mind the following program, to be held in May and call the library to pre-register.

May 14 – 11 a.m. Flower Pressing Workshop with Nancy Mayer – Part 2. Did you miss part 1 of this workshop? No worries. You can still join in the fun of learning this beautiful craft. A $5 fee for workshop materials will enable you to make and take home a unique pressed flower project.

The library will be closed on Monday, May 30 in honor of Memorial Day. It will re-open on Tuesday, May 31 at 9:30 a.m. with regular hours.

We all know that Memorial Day marks the start of summer and here at the library that means it’s almost time for the children’s summer reading program.

Registration for Summer Story hours begins on Tuesday, June 7. Sessions are scheduled for 1 and 2 years of age and 3 to 5 years of age. Call the library at 570-675-1182 to pre-register as spaces fill up quickly.

This year’s summer reading program, “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!” begins on Thursday, June 9. Parents may stop by the library to begin their child(ren)’s reading log, sign up for a reading group or register for a special summer reading program. All ages are welcome to join.

Watch the library’s website, www.backmountainlibrary.org, and Facebook page for more information on all of the above events.
