The most memorable part of March for many of us was the visit from Stella when we experienced record snowfalls throughout the Back Mountain. Thank you to all of the borough, township and PennDOT road crews across the Back Mountain for their hard work in clearing away the snow.

The March BMC Luncheon was held March 9 at Leggio’s in Dallas. Our speaker was Harold Hill, assistant district executive and engineer for PennDOT. The topic was the roundabout in Dallas and the timing of construction for this multiyear project. Mr. Hill gave a general overview of the roundabout and answered a variety of questions. It is our hope to have him speak to us again around this same time next year to update us on the progress of construction.

The BMC Spring Food Drive officially got underway March 18 and will continue until April 8. All food and monetary donations will go to the Back Mountain Food Pantry and benefit families in the Dallas and Lake-Lehman School Districts. On March 26, the BMC participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Eye Care Specialists for its new Retina Center on Rutter Avenue in Kingston. Welcome to Retina Specialist Joshua Hedaya M.D., and best wishes to Eye Care Specialists at its newly expanded facility.

Please remember the BMC Expo will be held April 26 at Misericordia University. There will be plenty of vendor tables at which you can learn more about our local businesses, services and professionals. There will also be food vendors, who will let you sample their specialties. Last, but not least, there will be an ice cream treat for every member of the public who attends.

Immediately following the Expo, there will be a History Presentation. The topic will be “The Titanic and its Wyoming Valley Passengers – 105 years after the great disaster.” The main speaker will be Dr. William V. Lewis, commissioner of the Pennsylvania Historical Museum Commission, past president of the Luzerne County Historical Society and author of the book “Stories of the Wilkes-Barre Titanic Passengers.”

If you wish to have your community event placed on the “BMC Events Calendar” on our website, email details to [email protected] or [email protected] and we will include your event.
