After weeks of warm temperatures and no snow, Old Man Winter may finally be poised to make his presence known in the Wyoming Valley.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from 6 p.m. tonight until 10 a.m. on Tuesday for Luzerne and Lackawanna counties.

According to the advisory, a mix of sleet and snow will arrive early this evening and will eventually become entirely sleet. The precipitation will then change to freezing rain by midnight, but temperatures are expected to climb above freezing overnight and put an end to the ice.

A half an inch of sleet and snow is possible tonight, and a thin layer of ice is possible with the freezing rain into the overnight hours.

A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties.
