The Wyoming Valley could see some severe weather into this afternoon.
According to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service, thunderstorms will develop early this afternoon along and ahead of a cold front. Some of the storms could become severe, with hail and damaging winds being the biggest threats.
The chances for severe weather are highest near the western Catskills, the Poconos and the Wyoming Valley.
No watches or warnings have been issued for the Luzerne County.
The forecast
The National Weather Service indicated it was 71 degrees as of 6:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, and partly cloudy skies are reported.
Mostly cloudy skies are expected today, with thunderstorms likely after 11 a.m. Up to a quarter of an inch of rain is expected, and the high will be near 83.
Showers and thunderstorms are likely before midnight tonight, followed by a slight chance of showers between midnight and 2 a.m. Up to a quarter of an inch of rain is expected, and the low will be around 60.
Partly sunny skies will return Wednesday, with a high near 80. Mostly clear skies will follow into Wednesday night, with a low around 55.
Sunny skies are predicted for Thursday, with a high near 83. Partly cloudy skies will carry over into Thursday night, with a low around 61.
