Storms possible today, sunshine and hot temperatures expected this weekend

A hot and sunny weekend is forecast for the Wyoming Valley this weekend, but the area could see some thunderstorms today.

The National Weather Service indicated it was 74 degrees as of 6:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, and fair skies were reported.

Mostly sunny skies are expected today, along with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected, and the high will be near 95.

Partly cloudy skies will carry over into tonight, along with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 p.m. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected, and the low will be around 70.

Sunny skies are predicted for Saturday, with a high near 92. Mostly clear skies will carry over into Saturday night, with a low around 63.

Mostly sunny skies will round out the weekend Sunday, with a high near 91. Partly cloudy skies will follow into Sunday night, with a low around 69.
