Freezing rain could cause traffic difficulties for the Wyoming Valley tonight and into Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a freezing rain advisory for Luzerne and Lackawanna counties from 4 a.m. to noon Tuesday.

An area of light freezing rain or drizzle will spread throughout the region early Tuesday morning. Temperatures are expected to slowly rise as the day progresses, and patches of light freezing rain are expected to stick around until about noon.

A freezing rain advisory means that periods of freezing rain or drizzle will cause traffic difficulties.

Forecast through the midweek

The National Weather Service indicated it was 14 degrees as of 6:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, and fair skies were reported.

Sunny skies are expected today, with a high near 39. Mostly cloudy skies will follow into tonight, with a low near 32.

Freezing rain is possible before 8 a.m. Tuesday, followed by rain throughout the remainder of the day. Little or no ice accumulation is expected, and the high will climb to 39.

Rain will continue to be likely into Tuesday night, and up to a quarter of an inch of rainfall is possible. The low will be around 39.

Wednesday will once again bring a 40 percent chance of showers, but no rainfall predictions have been listed. The high will be near 44.

Mostly cloudy skies will follow into Wednesday night, along with a chance of showers before 8 p.m. and drizzle into the overnight hours. The low will be around 32.
