Introduction to Zen Meditation

DALLAS — Flowing River Sangha announces an Introduction to Zen Meditation from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 2 at Mercy Center on the campus of Misericordia University.

The program includes an explanation of Zen meditation, a brief practice session and time for questions and discussion.

Pre-registration is required and a free will offering will be taken.

TUNKHANNOCK — Senator Lisa Baker announces that Field Representative Tom Yoniski will be available for consultation from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3 in the Commissioners’ Office Conference Room inside the Wyoming County Courthouse, 1 Courthouse Square. Appointments are welcome but not necessary.

Civil War Round Table meets

DALLAS — The Wyoming Valley Civil War Round Table will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 11, in the lower level of the Daddow-Isaacs American Legion, 730 Memorial Highway.

The program for the evening is entitled “A Sentinel on the Outpost: The Cupola of the Lutheran Seminary at the Battle of Gettysburg” and will be presented by Cody Eash, lead Visitor’s Service Assistant at the Gettysburg Seminary Ridge Museum.

Eash is a 2014 Graduate of Shippensburg University with a bachelor’s degree in Communication /Journalism, and frequently lectures for historical societies, Civil War roundtables, colleges and school groups. In addition to having written for several publications, Mr. Eash maintains the historical blog “Ramblings from the Ridges” at www.CodieEashWrites.com.

The program is open to the public. A $3 donation will be accepted for non-members. New members are always welcome.

DHS Class of 1965 will meet

DALLAS — Members of Dallas High School Class of 1965 will hold their monthly “Dinner with Friends” at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 16 at Leggio’s.

This meeting is being held in conjunction with the fundraiser for the Back Mountain Memorial Library .

DAMA to hold Community Shred Day

KINGSTON TWP. — The Dallas Area Municipal Authority will hold a Community Shred Day event on May 20.

The event gives residents of Dallas and Kingston townships and Dallas Borough access to the paper shredding services by The Paper Eaters from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, at DAMA’s facility located at 3337 Route 118 Lehman Township.

Residents need to provide proof of residency. Participant are limited to three boxes of papers each.

Shredding is limited to confidential and sensitive materials only. Magazines, newspapers, three-ring binders, plastics, heavy metals, household trash, CDs and cardboard will not be accepted.
