DALLAS — After dropping two games in a row, Patrick Keating’s Wyoming Valley West Spartans got back to their winning ways with a 29-0 shutout road victory over Dallas on Friday night.
Even playing through scattered showers and having a lengthy lightning delay, the Spartans’ rushing attack proved to be too much for the Mountaineers to handle.
Valley West was led by their two senior offensive leaders, in running back Sean Judge and quarterback Aaron Austin.
Judge ran for 60 yards on 13 carries and scored two touchdowns. The first coming off a 12-yard touchdown reception from Austin with 4:38 left to go in the first quarter. It was the only points scored in the first half and the Spartans took an 8-0 lead into the locker room.
Judge’s next big play came on the second-half opening kickoff, when he took it to the house on an 85-yard run for a 15-0 lead.
Teammate Austin ran for 79 yards on 21 rushes, including a key 5-yard quarterback scramble touchdown with 9:53 left in regulation to give his team a 22-0 lead.
Austin was 6 for 10 for 99 passing yards.
Valley West’s scoring barrage was capped off when junior fullback Zach Davies barreled his way for a bruising 17-yard touchdown run to give his team a 29-0 lead.
Dallas’ offense struggled all night and were held to only four first- down conversions on the day. Senior quarterback Stone Mannello threw two key interceptions, both picked off by Darrian Tyson.
Dallas will look to improve on their 1-4 record when they host Meyers next Friday. The Spartans who stand at 3-2 at the season’s midway point will look to keep up their winning ways going when they host Wallenpaupack next Friday.
