HAWLEY — Joe Ingulli found the end zone three times as Wallenpaupack (3-4) shut out Dallas 21-0 on a brisk Friday night.
Special teams played a pivotal role in the game. In the first quarter, a high snap on a Mountaineers (0-6) punt led to a fumble recovery by the Buckhorns on the 7-yard line.
Two plays later, sophomore running back Ingulli punched the ball in from 5-yards out. A made PAT gave the Buckhorns a 7-0 lead halfway through the first quarter.
That would be all the scoring in the first half, but the Buckhorns defense and special teams kept the Mountaineers pinned deep in their own territory for the majority of the first half.
The second half would be much of the same with neither team being able to mount a drive until Wallenpaupack got the ball on the Dallas 43 with 8:55 remaining in the game. On a drive that saw two touchdowns get called back for penalties, the Buckhorns got a first down after a roughing the kicker penalty. One play later, Ingulli found the end zone again from 8-yards out for a 14-0 lead.
He added another touchdown after the Mountaineers turned the ball over on downs on their next possession, scoring from 26 yards out for a 21-0 lead.
Ingulli finished with 98 yards on 19 carries and three scores.
Dallas returns home next week to face Wyoming Area.
The Buckhorns have a long week and travel to Clarks Summit to play Abington Heights on Saturday at 1 p.m.
