CAROLINE BANAS
Holy Redeemer
Jr. Sprinter
With the leap of her life, Banas set a personal record in the high jump with a height of 5-04 and elevated herself to the bronze medal spot on the PIAA Class 2A stand, but she was just as accomplished on the track. Banas darted her way to a District 2 silver medal in the 400-meter dash and led off Redeemer’s second-place 1,600-meter relay team at districts while capturing district gold in the high jump.
TAMAR BOURDEAU
Coughlin
Jr. Hurdler
Accomplished a pair of District 2 Class 3A silver medals while barely missing the top spot in both the 100 and 300-meter hurdles. Bourdeau also ran on Coughlin’s bronze medalist 1,600-meter relay team and on a 400 meter relay team that broke the Coughlin school record during the season after she helped that team set the District 2 record in 2014.
NICOLE BUEHRLE
Hazleton Area
Sr. Distance
Buehrle finished her stellar career with a banner performance in districts by collecting two medals in mid-distance events. She captured a silver medal in the District 2 Class 3A 1,600-meter run and earned a fourth-place medal in the 800-meter run by chopping more than three seconds from her seed time.
CHYANNE FINE
Hanover Area
Sr. Thrower
It was a fine way for one of Hanover Area’s most reliable sports standouts to end her career, as the hustling senior finished fifth in the state in the Class 2A discus throw and placed just outside the top 10 in the state shot put. That came after Fine won the District 2 gold medal in discus and took home a district silver in shot put.
OLIVIA GIAMBRA
Pittston Area
Sr. Jumper
Giambra plucked a pair of silver medals from District 2 competition and made it to states one more time. She finished second in both the triple jump and long jump, and competed in the PIAA Class 3A field in the triple jump.
MADISYN HAWKINS
Coughlin
So. Vaulter
Using the consistency that carried her through the season, Hawkins hit a height of 10-6 to earn a silver medal in the Class 3A pole vault competition after becoming one of the few WVC vaulters to clear 10 feet during the regular season.
NALASJIA JOHNSON
Meyers
So. Sprinter
Johnson polished off another strong season in short-distance races by streaking past the competition to capture another gold medal in the girls Class 2A 100-meter dash, then darting to a state bronze medal in that event. She also took home a pair of silver medals from districts, finishing second in the 200 -meter dash and helping the Meyers 400-meter relay team to a second-place finish.
KATIE KRAVITSKY
Dallas
Jr. Jumper
One of the most gallant performers in the WVC, Kravitsky won the District 2 Class 3A high jump gold medal while battling a painful case of knee tendinitis, then finished sixth in the state despite lacking the ability to get full push on her leaps. Her late-season performances also helped inspire Dallas to an unbeaten regular season and the WVC Division 1 championship.
EMILY MALONE
Hazleton Area
Sr. Sprinter
Malone came from nowhere to shock the District 2 field with a double-gold performance in the sprints. She flew to a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash, then jumped up four spots from both her seeding and preliminary run while beating everyone to the finish line in the 200-meter dash. Malone finished with a seventh-place state medals in the 100, and made it to the semifinals of the PIAA 200 before barely missing the cut for the finals.
LINDSEY OREMUS
Dallas
Sr. Distance
A good game plan took Oremus to a sixth-place state medal in the Class 3A 1,600-meter run, but her talent for outlasting other talented runners made her a threat throughout Dallas WVC Division 1 title season. She won the District 2 Class 3A gold medal in the 1,600 run, took home a silver in the 800-meter run and earned a fourth-place district medal in the 3,200-meter run.
ALLY ROME
Dallas
Jr. Distance
An illness dampened her day at states, but until then, Rome rolled past the competition to help Dallas go the distance for a Division 1 league title. She won the District 2 Class 3A gold medal in the 3,200-meter run, where Rome proved pretty much an automatic victory for the Mountaineers throughout the season.
VANESSA SHEDLOCK
Wyoming Area
So. Jumper
One of the standouts who helped the unbeaten Warriors to the WVC Division 2 crown, Shedlock wrapped up a three-medal performance in District 2 Class 3A competition by finishing fourth in the long jump. She was also a standout on the track, where she helped Wyoming Area’s 1,600-meter relay team win the district gold medal and captured bronze medals in the 200 and 400-meter dashes.
CAYLE SPENCER
Lake-Lehman
Sr. Thrower
The school record holder in the javelin throw, Spencer finally snagged an elusive state medal when she placed sixth in the Class 3A javelin event after winning gold in the District 2 championships. Spencer made her mark in other field events also, finishing with a fifth-place medal in the district shot put and an eighth-place medal in the district discus throw.
MARY TONA

A strong sprint down the homestretch took Tona to the District 2 Class 3A gold medal in the 300 hurdles and back to the PIAA championships.
