Nine state champions will be converging on Back Mountain Little League over the next seven days to determine the Little League 9-10 Softball East Region champion.

The tournament, which consists of two pool-play brackets, kicks off at 11 a.m. Saturday with opening ceremonies. Three games follow, including a 5:30 p.m. contest between Pennsylvania state champion Tunkhannock and New York champ Snug Harbor.

Tunkhannock won the District 15 title and went on to win the championship in Section 3, which stretches across the top of the state. The team didn’t have to venture too far for the state tournament, heading west to Wellsboro Little League. There, it swept through the bracket by winning all four games.

Tunkhannock will also be in action at 1 p.m. Sunday against New Jersey champion Bordentown, 3 p.m. Monday against Maryland champ Sharpsburg and 3 p.m. Wednesday against Delaware champ Camden Wyoming.

Tunkhannock is in the Mid-Atlantic Pool along with champions from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and New York. The New England pool consists of champions from Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island and Vermont.

The top teams in each pool advance to the semifinals on Thursday at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The championship game is 11:30 a.m. Friday, with a consolation game at 9 a.m.

All the teams will be honored at 7 p.m. Sunday during a banquet at the Woodlands Inn and Resort. The Woodlands will also host an ice cream social on Wednesday. The state champions will participate in a Parade at Champions at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday prior to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders’ home game against Lehigh Valley.
