July 2003

Back Mountain National started hot in the opening rounds of the District 16 Major Baseball All-Star season.

National picked up a 13-1 win over Exeter, then squeaked past Bear Buck/Miners Mills, 4-3. Joe Osick hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning against Bear Buck/Miners Mills to preserve the win. Osick’s blast helped erace a 3-0 deficit and sent National to a winners bracket quarterfinal against Duryea.

Steve Olshefski doubled while Russ Jenkins, Bobby Peron and Cory Shaver each singled.

July 1993

In Back Mountain Little League action, the Indians avenged two regular season losses to the Rangers and gave the Rangers their first setback of the season.

Chuck Fehlinger picked up the while while striking out 14 batters and walking two. Fehlinger and T.J. Amico each had three hits for the Tribe, including a double. Sean Hoskins had two hits and Mike Cleary had a double.

Kevin Pizzano and Mike Faneck each had two hits for the Rangers. Pizzano struck out 12 and walked three.

July 1983

For the first time in the history of the Bob Horlacher Memorial Little League, a girl, Tammy Brobst, was selected to the all-star team.

Brobst is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Brobst, of Centermoreland. She played second base and pitched for Centermoreland during the regular season.

July 1973

Bob Spears, a Dallas High School all-scholastic tackle, was selected to the Pennsylvania Big 33 All-Star team, which played the team from Ohio at Hershey Stadium.

Spears was the first Back Mountain player to be named to the team in the game’s history. A 6-3, 210-pound tackle, Spears played a major role in Dallas’ 11-0, 1972 season.

Spears was joined by GAR’s Todd Oldziejewski on the team.
