Editor’s note: The Dallas Post is rich in all kinds of history, especially sports history. Each week, the Post will bring you several different highlights from a particular decade. For this week, we chose to highlight the decades ending in “3.”
September 2003
Dallas quarterback Matt Kelly had a perfect night, going 12-for-12 with four total touchdowns as the Mountaineers raced past Hanover Area, 38-0.
Kelly threw for three touchdowns and rushed for another. Doug Harris led all rushers with 77 yards on 12 carries, including his 44-yard touchdown run. Mike Race caught eight passes for 75 yards.
September 1993
The Dallas football team dominated every aspect of the game when it took down then-unbeaten Coughlin, 38-0, after the Mounts were shut out the week before.
Senior quarterback Brian Brady finished 12-for-16 with 185 yards and a touchdown. Mike Viglione had six catches for 81 yards, while Charlie Siglin caught a touchdown pass. Rich Butcofski had 46 yards rushing to pace the Mountaineers. Overall, Dallas ran 46 times for 185 yards. Butcofski scored two touchdowns.
September 1983
Dallas coach Ron Ryback was pleased after a 40-7 win over Bishop Hoban.
“They executed their plays much better than they have since the opening game of the season,” Ryback said. Dallas’ Mike Borton ran for two touchdowns and scored another on a fumble recovery. Quarterback Bernie Walsh threw a 22-yard score to Paul Lewis and also ran for a touchdown.
September 1973
Lake-Lehman’s football team suffered a 7-0 loss at the hands of Nanticoke to fall to 1-2 on the young season.
The Knights turned the ball over four times and had negative yards rushing in the game.
September 1963
In front of 3,000 fans at Dallas High School, Dallas came home victorious in the first ever Booster Game, 19-0, over Lake-Lehman.
Dallas got touchdowns from Farley, Harris and Mike Jones. Jones scored on a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown. Farley and Harris each scored on a touchdown run.
