Editor’s note: The Dallas Post is rich in all kinds of history, especially sports history. Each week, the Post will bring you several different highlights from a particular decade. For this week, we chose to highlight the decades ending in “6.”
October 2006
Four different players scored a goal as the Dallas boys soccer team took down Lake-Lehman, 4-1. Following the game, Dallas head coach Chris Scharff and the Mountaineers were presented with a trophy from the Back Mountain Youth Soccer organization.
Scoring goals for Dallas were Alex Baltimore, Eric Cannon, Devon Kornack and Billy DeAngelo. Gary Knauer scored the only goal for Lake-Lehman.
October 1996
Lake-Lehman picked up a 20-0 win over Meyers in Wyoming Valley Conference football action. Marc Ronczka rushed for 196 yards and three touchdowns. Ronczka scored on a pair of 62-yard touchdown runs and a one-yard plunge.
October 1986
The Dallas football team dominated a powerful Wyoming Area team for three quarters only to see the Warriors come out with a 15-11 win.
The Mountaineers allowed a 5-yard touchdown pass with 48 seconds left for the loss. Mike Koprowski scored Dallas’ lone touchdown with a two-yard run in the second quarter. Dallas also got a safety when Bill Fedrow made a sack in the Wyoming Area end zone.
October 1976
Dallas picked up a 15-14 win over Wyoming Area.
Fullback Joe Shurites scored the first Mountaineer touchdown from seven yards out. A few minutes later, Dallas’ Juan Navarro returned a kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown and a 13-7 lead for the Mounts. Dallas picked up two points when a Wyoming Area punt was blocked by Tom McDonnell and went for a safety.
October 1966
Dallas and Lake-Lehman played to a 1-1 tie in field hockey action played at Dallas High School. Dallas was coached by Mabel Jenkins, while Lake-Lehman was coached by Florence Finn.
