November 2005
Wyoming Seminary lacrosse player Sofie Grossman, Shavertown, signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her athletic and academic career at Lafayette College.
Grossman played defensive wing at Wyoming Seminary during the last two seasons and was named co-caption for the spring 2006 season.
November 1995
The Scorpions won the Back Mountain Cup Tournament in the U-12 girls division. The U-12 tournament featured the final three games decided by shootouts, and the championship game was decided by a second sudden-death shootout.
Members of the team were Kelly Lenahan, Alison Taroli, Leah Vnuk, Lauren Patton, Samantha Lloyd, Olivia Barrall, Allyson Piatt, Lana Burke, Rachel Pekorney, Sara McPhee, Rebecca Nulton, Kelli Haney, Beth Mariner, Christine Muscavage, Liz Byron, Jonelle Dickson, Sarah Armand and Michaeline Horvath.
The team was coached by Daniel Taroli, Garry Taroli and Bob Lenahan.
November 1985
Three local soccer teams won games in the Luzerne County Cup Tournament, which was sponsored by the Luzerne County Recreation Department.
In the U-16 division, the Back Mountain Rowdies fell to the Back Mountain Strikes, 5-4. Scoring in the game were Jeff Tinner (2 goals), Steve Finn (3 goals), Doug Doerfler, Reese Finn, Mike Richards and Wes Wuori.
In the U-10 division, Sean Callahan’s lone goal gave the Back Mountain Cosmos a 1-0 win over the Back Mountain Stallions. Solid goalie performances were by the Cosmos’ Jeff Kunkle and the Stallions’ Dave Thomas.
November 1975
Dallas picked up an early boys basketball win with a 73-66 decision over Tunkhannock in the second game of the season.
Greg Steele led all scorers with 14 points, while Jeff Supulski put in 13 points and added four assists. Brian Sickler also had 13 points. Bruce Riefenstahl, Steve Skammer and Mike McGroarty each finished with eight points.
Throughout the games, Dallas was charged with 42 fouls, while Tunkhannock had 40.
