BERWICK – Berwick needed 31 points from Tyler Evans to eliminate Dallas, 56-53, Tuesday night in the opening round of the District 2 Class AAA boys basketball tournament.

Evans, who became the school’s career scoring leader in the game, helped the Bulldogs come out on top after being tied at the end of three quarters.

Tanner Gattuso scored 16 points to lead Dallas, which was seeded 11th out of 16 teams in the tournament and finished its season 8-15. Alex Charlton added 10 points.

The Dallas-Berwick game was one of just two played in District 2 Class AAA Tuesday night when weather conditions forced the postponement of the rest of the schedule.

West Scranton downed Lake-Lehman, 51-36, at Scranton High School.

Jacob Corey had eight of his team-high 15 points in the fourth quarter when the Black Knights produced half of their points after falling behind, 40-18.

Matt Williams led West Scranton with 19 points.

GAR ripped Tunkhannock, 79-42, in a boys game.

The game was tied, 19-19, after one quarter. Tony Maloney had nine of his 14 points and Evan Turner had six of his 12 during the first quarter for the Tigers.

The Tunkhannock girls managed just three first-quarter points in a 56-22 loss at Abington Heights.
