The Dallas eighth grade boys basketball team won the Wyoming Valley Conference championship with a 45-44 win over Pittston Area.
Tom Youells led Dallas with 17 points, while Scott Skammer had 12 points. Pittston Area took a one-point lead with 30 seconds left, but Derek Martin landed two foul shots with 10 seconds remaining to seal the win.
The Hanover boys basketball team took down Dallas, 56-50, in the Division 2 Class AAA playoffs. The game was played at King’s College.
Ted Jackson scored a game-high 25 points and JP Cosgrove scored 10. Rich Klick had five points and Jeff Kunkle had four points. The Mountaineers finished the season 9-15.
The Dallas Junior High School seventh and ninth grade girls physical education classes, under the direction of Anne Seitz, participated in the President’s Council Physical Fitness Test. All girls scored in the 80th percentile or better on the national level.
The Dallas boys basketball failed to win the second half title of the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 with an 88-82 loss against Hanover.
The Mountaineers had to overcome a 15-point deficit in the second quarter to keep the game close. Mike Carey led the way for Dallas with 27 points. Bill Rhines had 24 points, while George Third had 16.
