Dallas’ Robin Fry was named Wilkes-Barre Recreation Board Girls Basketball Tournament MVP in March of 1975.

    March 2005

    The Gate of Heaven varsity boys basketball team finished the Wyoming Valley Catholic League season with a record of 14-7.

    In the playoffs, GOH beat St. Mary’s of Pittston, 41-32, behind 12 points from Pat DeRojas and 10 points from Casey Judge. The Gators also beat Wyoming Area Catholic, 53-44. Judge scored 18 points, while DeRojas had 13 points.

    In the semifinals, Holy Rosary got past the Gators, 60-45. Nick Latosek led Gate of Heaven with 15 points, while Tom Horn added 11. Earlier in the season, Gate of Heaven won the Wyoming Area Tournament with wins over St. Mary’s and Wyoming Area Catholic.

    March 1995

    Members of the Back Mountain Wrestling Club participated in the Western Wayne Tournament and copped several first-place finishes.

    Matthew Davis (80), Michael Stolarik (55), Donovan White (35), Steve Arnold (140) and Jake Walter (120) all finished with first-place medals. Several other Back Mountain wrestlers received second- and third-place medals.

    March 1985

    Back Mountain wrestlers participated in the Tri-Valley Tournament and garnered several first-place medals.

    Bobby Farber (65), Mike Geurin (80), Ray Rosencrans (95) and Jason Prokopchak (85) all finished in first place. Charlie Gordon (110) finished in third place.

    March 1975

    Dallas’ Savory Pizza team won the Third Annual Wilkes-Barre Recreation Board Girls Basketball Tournament, 54-32 over St. John’s.

    The team beat Bishop Hoban and Wyoming Valley West to reach the finals against Mountain Top. In the title game, the girls won 53-33. Robin Fry was named tournament Most Valuable Player for the second straight year. Brenda Stella was named to the tournament all-star team.
